Message from Father Vincent
Although during this present lockdown places of worship can still open for services, I wish to remind you that the obligation to attend Mass is still suspended. Bishop Declan has written to priests informing them that they can close churches and cease the public celebration of Masses if they are unable to ensure that government and diocesan health and safety guidance can be followed.
Here at Saint Edmund’s we can continue with public celebration of Masses for as long as we have sufficient stewards and cleaners. They must follow the guidance which has previously been issued to them.
The national guidance makes clear that we must have a particular focus on protecting people who are clinically vulnerable and more likely to develop severe illness, including people who are aged 60 or older, regardless of medical conditions, and that the communal nature of churches makes them places that are particularly vulnerable to the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). Those in the clinically extremely vulnerable groups should be shielding at home at the present time.
If you are on the rota as a volunteer steward or cleaner and because of the high prevalence of coronavirus and the national restrictions choose not to attend Mass at the present time, please let Teresa Quinn know and your name will be removed from the rota.
If you are choosing to continue attending Mass you must follow the national guidance which includes the wearing of a face covering, (unless exempt), maintaining social distancing and not mingling with anyone outside of your household or support bubble, either inside or outside the church.
If you have any symptoms of COVID-19, or are self-isolating, you must not attend the church.
