For very many years Saint Edmund’s Parish has had a Parish Pastoral Council.

The present structure and organisation of the Parish Pastoral Council was established following the diocesan consultation “Seeking the Face of Christ” launched in December 2006 which led to the diocesan pastoral guidelines “Called to be a People of Hope” published in November 2008.

Supported by the diocesan document “Pastoral Councils an implementation guide” the present Parish Pastoral Council was established in May 2010.

The Code of Canon Law indicates the prime purpose of the Parish Pastoral Council:

“In this council, which is presided over by the parish priest, Christ’s faithful, together with those who by virtue of their office are engaged in pastoral care in the parish, give their help in fostering pastoral action.”
Canon 536.

The diocesan document “Called to be a People of Hope” outlines the work of the Parish Pastoral Council as follows:

  • to investigate the pastoral activity of the parish,
  • to consider what this means, and
  • to formulate practical conclusions to help the parish move forward.

The meetings of the Parish Pastoral Council are open to all parishioners. Minutes of meetings are available on the ‘Pastoral Council minutes’ page from the menu on the left of this page. The next meeting of the Parish Pastoral Council will be held on Thursday 31st August 2017 at 7.30.p.m. in the church hall.
